Bridge Blog 1086: Bottom of the STaC

That was me and June Feuerstein Wednesday morning, when nothing seemed to go right at our table. Fortunately, June is bright-spirited, even in defeat. How bad was it? I was surprised we did as well as 39% even.
June promised a better afternoon and we could tell all along that it was. I couldn’t stick around for the final results, but the preliminary tabulation showed us over 50%, third among 10 pairs in a five-table Howell game.
Meanwhile, woke up to find my cold returned. Back to the decongestants. Got to the game on time, though, early enough to check Tuesday afternoon’s results. Dotty May and I had a 57.77% game, second only to Nancy Wolstoncroft and the unbeatable Alan Greer, first in the B strat. 1.32 points.
But wait! Make that 2.11. District results were posted while we were playing Wednesday and since the Airport Club was the only one playing an open game Tuesday afternoon, our points got bumped up on the district level.
Looks like 4.48 for the week so far, without even counting Wednesday afternoon. What’s my best STaC recently? Let’s look back a few years:
Dec. 2018 – 2.52.
June 2018 – 1.07.
Dec. 2017 – 2.99.
June 2017 – 8.07.
Dec. 2016 – 9.74.
June 2016 – 11.57.
Dec. 2015 – 7.77.

Postscript: At a mid-evening, all the Wednesday STaC results came through in a pair of e-mails. How did we do? Turns out we stayed third overall, second in B. 56.02%. 0.94 of a point. 5.42 for the week.
