day. Poor partner, which is Art Matthies. 43.88%.
Tuesday: Can I find
winning ways with Usha Khurana and fatten my point count for August in the
waning days of the month? Not when the two of us are making such grievous
mistakes. 44.71%.
Wednesday: Always a
good time with June Feuerstein, but not always a good game. Nevertheless, better
than both of us expected. 46.06%.
Thursday: Last chance
to improve August with Marietta Kalman. But we don’t. 49.11%. Finish the month
with 14.91 points at the Airport Club, plus 0.75 at the Unit Picnic and 0.49 in
St. Catharines.
Friday: New month
begins in St. Catharines with Selina Volpatti. Our usual aggressive game pays
off in a 20-table competition. 58.32%. Third overall. 0.84 of a point.
Saturday: Airport
Bridge Club August master point race winner Denise Slattery carries her magic
into the new month, despite three major errors on my part that give us bottom
boards – blowing a makeable 3 No Trump contract, failing to even bid game on a
hand that takes 12 tricks and … can’t think of the other one. Still we come in
with 61.73% in a four-table Howell. Second overall, first in the B and C
strats. 1.66 points.
Are my hands way
below par (i.e. average of 10 points) in the back-and-forth switch from
North-South to East-West in the Howell movement? Seems that way. Let’s check.
Yep, 8.74, but not as bad as I thought.
